TIPS
Keyword Search
To search our collection, enter a keyword in the
Search field in the upper right of your screen,
select the number of images you would like
displayed per page, and click "Search,"
or hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard.
Your search will find and display any images
containing your search term in its keyword list.
Example: Entering "ocean" will find and
display images with "ocean" in their
keyword list.
Using Operators
To expand or refine your results, you may use AND,
OR, or NOT between your keywords. These operators
have the following effects:
Placing AND between two keywords will display
images that contain both search terms in their
keyword list.
Example: Entering "ocean and mountain"
will display images with both "ocean"
and "mountain" in their list of
keywords.
Using OR between two terms will display images
that contain either word in their keyword list.
Example: Entering "ocean or mountain"
will display images with either "ocean"
or "mountain" in their keyword list.
Placing NOT between two words will display images
that contain the first word, but not the second
term.
Example: Entering "ocean not mountain"
will display images with "ocean" in
their keyword list that do not contain
"mountain" in their keyword list.
A SPACE between search terms works exactly like
AND.
Example: Entering "ocean mountain" will
display images with both "ocean" and
"mountain" in their keyword list.
You may enter as many search terms as you like,
separated by operators.
Example: Entering "ocean and mountain not
sunset" will display images with both
"ocean" and "mountain" in
their keyword list that do not also contain
"sunset."
Hints
We recommend searching for a broad term first,
then using additional search terms to narrow your
results.
The search is not case-sensitive, so you can use
either upper or lower-case letters.
Singular and plural forms of keywords are treated
separately, so if you want to find images with
either singular or plural keywords, you must enter
both terms with "or" between them.
Example: Entering "tree" will display
only those images with "tree" in the
keyword list. Entering "trees" will
return only those images with "trees" in
the keyword list. Entering "tree or
trees" will give more results, those with
either "tree" or "trees" in
the keyword list.
A SPACE between search terms works like AND, but
if you enclose a phrase in quotation marks it will
be treated as a single search term. This is a
subtle difference, but can return different
results.
Example: New York will display images with both
"new" and "york" in their
keyword list, but "New York" will
display only those images that contain the phrase
"new york" in their keyword list. |
